'Heavy police presence' at Javelin Co-op apartment in Midland

Police say situation is 'contained' but note there remains a 'heavy police presence' as part of an ongoing investigation

There is a heavy police presence at the Javelin Co-operative Homes apartment on William Street in Midland Friday night.

There is currently a heavy police presence at 615 William St., home to the Javelin Co-operative Homes apartment in Midland.

MidlandToday witnessed at least 12 police vehicles with officers in regular uniform and some clad in green fatigues carrying rifles after 5 p.m. Friday. Fire trucks and an ambulance were on the site at 7 p.m. 

Southern Georgian Bay OPP said, via social media, the "heavy police presence" was due to an ongoing investigation.

At 7:30 p.m., police said, via social media, that the situation had been "contained."

However, OPP went on to say "there's still heavy police presence on William Street. The OPP is grateful for Midland residents being (co-operative) and understanding and ask for the area to remain clear until further notice."

Police report there is no threat to public safety but ask people to avoid the area.
