The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a 28-year-old woman died Saturday after being arrested in Barrie.
On Thursday night, Barrie police officers arrested the woman in the area of 49 Coulter St. for outstanding warrants. She was taken to the police station and held in a cell, the SIU said in a news release.
On Friday night, Ontario Provincial Police special constables transported the woman from the Barrie police station to the Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene. She was found unresponsive in the vehicle and was taken to Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland.
The woman was pronounced dead Saturday in hospital.
A post-mortem is scheduled for May 20.
