A report of an assault Tuesday in Penetanguishene led police to a suspect wanted in connection to shoplifting incidents in Midland.

Shortly after 4 p.m. April 29, Southern Georgian Bay OPP responded to a complaint about shoplifting at the LCBO on Jones Road in Midland. Surveillance video was obtained by police.

On May 6, at about 3:30 p.m., staff at the LCBO reported another theft and again provided surveillance footage, leading police to identify the suspect.

On May 7, at about 2 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault at a residence on Rue Richelieu in Penetanguishene. Police learned the suspect was also the person they were looking for in relation to the thefts from the LCBO.

Brieana River Crane, 26, of Penetanguishene, has been charged with assault, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts of theft under $5,000.

The accused was released from custody and is set to appear in court in June.
