Tough season: Injuries continue to plague Huronia Grey Jays

Pair of serious injuries force Grey Jays to juggle lineup, leads to multiple errors in pair of dropped games against Bracebridge

Huronia Grey Jays' season now underway.

This has been a difficult season for the Huronia Grey Jays with several players playing injured in almost every game this season.

The team has also had to play short-handed in multiple games meaning players are put in positions that they aren’t familiar with leading to more errors than one would expect in Slo-pitch. It has not been surprising that the Jays have produced the fewest wins in years.

But Tuesday in Bracebridge was the worst yet for serious injuries.

The Jays started well with a full complement of players and it looked like it might be a competitive set of games. But in his first at bat in the second inning, the Jays’ centre fielder went down on his first step running to first and had to be helped off the field with a season-ending injury.

Two innings later the Grey Jays' left fielder was tracking down a hit on an extremely wet field, caught his footing and had to limp his way off the field. His injury also appeared to be season ending.

The Jays were suddenly short-handed, had players playing out of position, a disrupted batting order, and two other players operating with minor injuries. The team soldiered on and gave their best effort but were unable to put up much opposition to Bracebridge losing 19-12 in the first game and 22-10 in the second game.

The team will be handicapped for the remainder of the season without the full complement of players. But the team will, as always, give the best effort they can.

Next up is league leader Barrie Green at home in Perkinsfield.
