After two weeks of improving play, the Huronia Grey Jays finally put it all together and beat Wasaga in both halves of a doubleheader at home in Perkinsfield last week.
John Baird continued his hot pitching and shut out Wasaga in both the 3rd and 6th innings. This performance was supported by strong hitting throughout the lineup with every player scoring a run in the game for the first time this season.
The solid hitting was led by Joe Rankin, who hit a homer while going four for four, with Tim Sweeting scoring three times and going three for four.
For the first time this season, the Grey Jays scored in every inning.
They started slowly, getting behind 8-2 after two innings, but narrowed that to 8-7 after three. The Jays never seemed in trouble after that and controlled the game to the end, winning 17-15 and not having to bat in their half of the 7th inning.
The Jays were in total control of the second game with the entire roster supporting the pitching of Randy Massicotte.
Sweeting went four for four, scoring each time, while Rankin also went four for four with two home runs. However, the second only counted as a double since league rules allow a player to hit only one home run per game.
The Jays were never behind after the 3rd inning and cruised to a 15-13 win.
