A Midland hockey team is on top of the province.

The Midland Centennials are this year’s Ontario Minor Hockey Association U15 Rep champions after winning six straight wins at the tier 1 championships this past weekend in Barrie.

The team coached by Spencer Warren, Jeff Weicker, Mark Fuller, Darryl Clennett and Kim Berry won all three of their games during the group stage (Midland 3 vs Milton Winterhawks 0; Midland 6 vs Delhi Rockets 3; Midland 5 vs Belleville Bulls 1).

They then went on to post a 2 to 1 victory over South Muskoka in the quarter-finals before defeating the Greater Fort Erie Meteors by a score of 3 to 1 in the semis.

“In a tense and exciting final the boys rallied from being 2-1 down to scoring twice in the 3rd period to beat St. Mary’s Rock 3-2 and acquiring the famous OMHA red hats for winning,” a coach told MidlandToday.

“That win put the cherry on top of their season.”

The team finished first in their division during the regular season and captured an earlier regional International Silverstick tournament in Midland by beating Orillia in the final 5 to 3.

Team members were also finalists at the both the Jim Wilson Tournament in Orillia and the Georgian Bay/Muskoka playdown tournament.

Overall, the team finished the season with 41 wins, one tie and four losses while scoring 214 goals and only allowing 43.

Team members are: Mason Downs, Brody Berry, Tyson Berry, Cameron Rowlandson, Blake Weicker, Mason Fitzgerald, Cohen Smith, Owen Clennett, Drew Robson, Matt Landriault, Cole Warren, Curtis Warren, Owen Fuller, Ethan Barron, Cameron Mullin and Kamden Elson.
