Three impaired operation charges laid in area last week

Southern Georgian Bay OPP charged three people with impaired driving last week.

At about 6:20 p.m. Aug. 15, police received a report of someone standing on the shoulder of the Crooked Bay Road off-ramp of Highway 400 in Georgian Bay Township. The vehicle was being towed from the ditch. Officers attended the scene and arrested the driver.

Beverley Cook, 42, of Midland, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol) and operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus). The accused was released from custody and has a Sept. 7 court date.

On Aug. 16 at about 4:20 p.m., police were called to Village Square Mall in Penetanguishene. The caller “could not help but notice an individual who was attempting to enter a vehicle and had dropped a glass liquor bottle and let it roll across the parking lot without any interest and who also appeared to be visibly impaired,” police said in a news release.

Lucille Stevens, 60, of Penetanguishene, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol) and operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus). The accused was released from custody and is set to appear in court Aug. 31.

At about 3:45 a.m. Aug. 19, police received a report of a driver who appeared to be passed out in a vehicle at a restaurant drive-thru on County Road 93 in Midland.

Tshihimba Musafiri, 26, of Hamilton, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs), operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus), having care or control of a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, being a novice driver failing to surrender a licence, and being a novice driver with a blood-alcohol concentration above zero. The accused was released from custody and will appear in court Sept. 14.

In all three incidents, the accused face a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
