Police investigating homicide at Orillia long-term care home

An assault at an Orillia long-term care home has resulted in the death of an elderly resident.

Orillia OPP responded Nov. 13 to the facility for the report of an assault involving two residents.

Kevin Elmes, 88, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. On Nov. 24, he died of his injuries, police said in a news release.

Police have not released the name of the other resident involved in the incident or the facility where the assault occurred.

A homicide investigation is underway by the Orillia OPP Crime Unit, with the assistance of OPP Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch.

Police don’t believe there is a concern for public safety.
