Disturbance at motel leads to weapons charge

Suspect arrested at gunpoint after officers responded to the incident early this morning

Two 911 calls to the OPP Communications Centre at approximately 12:45 a.m. Dec. 5, 2022 by staff at a King Street, Midland motel reporting suspicious persons on the property possibly breaking into vehicles resulted in a quick response by officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment.

Upon arrival, attending uniform officers were directed inside the motel to a possible ongoing assault incident and encountered an involved lone agitated individual who produced an edged weapon during interaction with the officers. The individual was arrested at gun point and transported to detachment for further investigation.

Charged is Ryan Tyerman, 39 years of Midland, with the following criminal offences:
    •    Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
    •    Causing a disturbance

The accused was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 19, 2023.
