GEORGIAN BAY TOWNSHIP – A driver is facing numerous charges after an Ontario Provincial Police officer pulled over a vehicle headed north on Highway 400 on Friday night.

At around 9:25 p.m. an officer from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP was conducting stationary traffic patrol in Georgian Bay Township when the OPP vehicle's licence plate reader detected a possible suspended driver behind the wheel of a northbound Toyota Tacoma.

In a news release, the OPP said a vehicle stop was made and the officer spoke to the driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Further investigation led to charges against the 47-year-old male driver from Southampton, Ont., including:

  • Driving while under suspension
  • Use plates not authorized
  • Entire plate not plainly visible
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Provincial Offences Court at a future date.

Police said his vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.
