It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Helmi (Emi) Rebane (nee Living) in her 106th year. Helmi was born in Estonia and that is where she met her husband, Berthold. They were married for 69 years until his passing in 2005.They fled Estonia with their young daughter in 1944 at the end of World War II when Russia was threatening occupation. They spent time in Europe as refugees in Poland, Germany and England. In 1956, they immigrated to Hamilton, Canada and called that home for over 25 years, until a final move to Penetanguishene to be closer to family. Helmi will be deeply missed and forever loved by her daughter, Helgi Kronis (the late Murray), grandchildren, Roxanne Clark (Will) and Aaron Kronis, great grandson, Jagger Clark and her dear relatives and friends in Estonia, Chicago, British Columbia and Hamilton.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Lorna Tomlinson Residence and Hillcrest for the outstanding support and care for Helmi during her last years.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Saint James-on-The-Lines Cemetery in Penetanguishene.
