It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Payne on February 27, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Harvey Thomas Payne. Mother of Kathy Wolfer (Paul), Tom Payne (Elaine Meinig), Judy Payne (Spencer Brown), grandmother to Matt (Jenna), Chris, Lauren, Mara (Johnny) and Maddy (Liam), great grandmother to Claire and fondly remembered by Colin and Aaron Brown. Survived by her brother Craig Allen. Predeceased by her sister Mary Allen and parents Samuel and Kate Allen. She will be remembered by her lifelong friend from high school, Sylvia Purdon.
Margaret was born in 1935 in Toronto. She trained as a nurse at the Toronto Western Hospital. She worked as an operating room nurse at the Toronto Western Hospital and later taught nursing at Georgian College. Marg and Harvey moved to Midland in 1964 with their 3 children where they embraced their sailing lives on Georgian Bay. Marg’s other passions included books, crosswords, quilting, sewing and music.
Marg and Harvey were both founding and lifetime members of The Midland Bay Sailing Club. They were instrumental in launching the sailing school to teach new generations the joy of sailing on Georgian Bay. Marg was a long-time member of the Serenade Choir and the local Quilting Guild.
The family would like to thank Hospice Huronia for their care and compassion during the last few weeks of her life.
