It is with profound sadness to announce that Patricia Martin (nee Wraw) a resident at Chartwell Tiffin, Midland, Ontario, passed away at the age of 91 years after an extended hospitalization at the Georgian Bay General Hospital, Midland, Ontario on Wednesday July 26, 2023

Pat was born in Lancashire, England on May 18, 1932, to William (Bill) Vernon Wraw and Emily Hopkinson Wraw (nee Rigby). She had one brother Peter Wraw- all have predeceased her.

Pat Martin had a rich and varied life attending school in England including a catholic convent, receiving a teacher’s certificate through Manchester School of Education. Pat studied at Bournemouth College, England as an art student. When she moved to Canada in 1974, she received a Specialist Religious Education Certificate and a BA in Humanities. Pat worked as a teacher and principal in Combermere, before leaving the gray nuns and moving to Kirkland Lake.

Pat met her first husband Leonid Grischenko in Kirkland Lake soon after moving there and was married on January 8, 1977. They lived in Markdale before moving to Penetanguishene a few months before his death, August 23, 1997.  Pat became involved with Hospice Huronia shortly after Leonid’s death when asked to speak to the volunteers about grieving a loved one.  And she engaged in committee work with Hospice Huronia thereafter. Additionally, she took workshops on Therapeutic Touch which she used to help others with aches and pains, over the years.  Pat was also active in Probus, and Seniors Advisory Council of Penetanguishene.

Pat married Roy McCabe April 6, 2002, and it was at this time that Pat began taking a Diploma course in Homeopathy.  Prior to his death February 18, 2004, Roy urged Pat to continue her studies and received a Diploma of the Institute of Homeopathy. (D.I.Hom) June 10, 2004

Pat met Ken Martin, husband number three online, and they were married on September 8, 2009, in Terra Cotta Ontario, moving to Hillsburgh several years later. They kept busy with curling in the winter, gardening in the summer, and taking personal interest courses throughout the year when they weren’t watching Lawrence Welk or the Shopping Channel.

When Ken died on April 15,2021, Pat was determined to move back to the Penetanguishene/Midland area and subsequently moved to Chartwell Tiffin September 2021. She took part in many activities while there (knitting, music events, bus trips and town meetings) and would engage everyone in conversation.

Pat enjoyed sewing and tailored suits and jackets among other things. She also embraced the creative arts that began as a child, enjoying watercolor painting which she displayed at art shows. Pat appreciated music; singing, playing the piano and violin but especially loved to listen to the music of Andre Rieu which she said, “soothed the soul.”

Pat is survived by her nephew Simon Wraw, of Bournemouth England and his wife Debbie and their children and grandchildren, extended family in England, her stepson Derek Martin of Halton Ontario and her many friends here and abroad.

A celebration of life will take place on Thursday August 24, 2023, at Chartwell Tiffin at 10:00 hours. Donations are welcomed to Hospice Huronia, International Needs Canada or Ukrainian war relief in lieu of flowers and will be received by Carson Funeral Homes – JH Lynn Chapel, 290 First Street, Midland (705) 526-6551.
