It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verna Marie Kaps. As in life, she was surrounded by family when she passed peacefully on January 12, 2024. Born to Louise and Ernest Hamelin in 1938, she was the eldest of eight including Roland Hamelin, Bernadette Prokesch, Linda Metcalfe, Tony Vidal and the late Clarence Deschamps, Claudette Quinn, Lucie Whalley, and Ernie Hamelin. Verna was passionate about family, fashion, faith and her beloved cats. She was a creative woman who enjoyed dancing, music, decorating, cooking, and sewing. She was a garage sale aficionado. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Wolfgang Kaps; daughters Monica (Dave) Ironside, Michele Kaps, and Nicole (Dan) Lamers; grandchildren Skylar Bates, Kashka and Kayla Ironside, Nathan and Payden Lamers, Noah Gleason; great-granddaughter Luna Matthews-Bates; as well as many nieces and nephews. Thank you to the healthcare providers who treated Verna with dignity and provided compassionate care during her stay at Georgian Bay General Hospital. A celebration of life is being planned for spring 2024. Donations can be made in her honour to Georgian Bay General Hospital and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
