29-Jul-1956 - 05-Apr-2023

It is with profound sadness that I inform our family and friends of the passing of my beloved Stephen. Stephen passed away peacefully in my arms at 3:15am at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, April 5th, 2023.

Fondly known as ‘Scuba Steve’, Stephen was born in Horsham, England. He was brought to Canada in 1957 by his parents Ron and Flora Josland. Stephen loved Midland and spent his entire life here. He owned and operated his own business of flooring sales, installation and small renovations. He attended M.S.S. and was an avid Rugby player and fan, playing for the Midland Bulls. His passion in life was scuba diving, of which he did both commercially and for recreation. He loved his boat,” Just Add Ice”, boating and diving on Georgian Bay for over 15 years.

Stephen loved to drive and travel. Together with his wife Amanda, they travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States, Cuba and Mexico. He enjoyed finding the unique things in life that we so often take for granted. He loved the beauty of nature and was fascinated with water and what lay beneath the surface of the ocean. He also had a passion for politics, and often engaged complete strangers in conversation and debate while having a beer at his favourite pub.

Stephen is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Amanda, of 20 years. His father-in-law, Brian Eastwood, “favorite” sister-in-law Michaela and husband Bill Walker and nephews Zach and Ben. Ray and Joanne Berube, Wayne and Lesley Eastwood, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Stephen has two surviving siblings. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life in loving memory of Stephen will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Midland Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated in Stephen’s name. Stephen was an enthusiastic supporter of the Salvation Army Christmas Family Campaign, supporting this charity for the past 14 years.

Arrangements entrusted to the Nicholls Funeral Home.
