On Sunday June 25th 2023, Jean Marie Craig (nee Ashton) passed away suddenly at the age of 84. Jean is survived by her loving husband Donald Murray Craig. Beloved mother of David (Cathy), Stephen, Kevin (Carrie) and Sandra (Jim). Beloved grandmother of Amanda (Chris) & Caitlin (Nafeez), Michael & Kelly (Gerald), Spencer & Grace, Jessica (Zack) & Ryan (Marisa). Beloved great-grandmother of Myles, Kayden and Callie. Cherished sister-in-law of Carrie. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Spence and Mabel Ashton, and brothers Wayne and Bruce.
Jean was born on May 31st, 1939 in Toronto. She met Don at Balm Beach on Labour Day weekend 1955. They married on Oct 4, 1958, and bought their first home in Etobicoke. Jean worked at the family business, S.M. Ashton Ltd., until they started a family where they had three sons and a daughter.
In 1971, they moved to Burford, raised their children and made many lifelong friends. They enjoyed going to the Princeton Dances and other community events.
Jean was the secretary at the Harley-Northfield Public School from 1975 – 1997. She spent many years volunteering with the Burford Figure Skating Club – her specialty was sewing costumes for the skating carnivals.
In 1990, Jean and Don moved full time to their cottage at Wymbolwood Beach. They renovated it to accommodate their growing family, and have enjoyed many years making wonderful memories with family and friends.
Jean had many interests including euchre with the “Sisters of the Deck”, line dancing, reading, gardening, travelling, and volunteering with the Church and the PROBUS Club.
Visitations: July 7th 2-4pm & 7-9pm – Nicholls Funeral Home, 330 Midland Ave, Midland.
Celebration of Life: July 8th 11am – St. Paul’s United Church, 308 King St, Midland.
An interment, for the family, will follow the service.
A luncheon will be served at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul’s United Church would be appreciated.
