In Loving Memory of Ernie Cascagnette.

It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our dad, Ernie Cascagnette who passed away surrounded by his loving family April 6th, 2024 at 80 years of age.

We will take solace in the fact that Ernie has been called to heaven, welcomed by God and all of his family who predeceased him: Charlotte, his beloved partner, parents Orelda Cascagnette, Theresa and Armand Latour, siblings Doris Doran, Andy (Day) Cascagnette and Mike Latour. He is survived by Julie, mother of his children, Susan (Ian) Lawson, Lucille (Ray) Cote, Patrick (Darlene Bugg) Cascagnette, and Ken (Michelle) Cascagnette. Cherished grandfather of Cindy, Tyler, Sarah, Kenneth, Jayden, Adam & Skyler. Great-grandfather of Leah, Paisley, Aubrey and Brinley. Ernie is survived by his siblings Stanley (Sarah) Cascagnette, Victor Latour, Joan Amero, Jackie Cadieux, Tom (Marg) Latour, Karen (Richard) Patterson, brother-in-law, John Doran, sisters-in-law Kay Cascagnette and Darlene Latour along with many nieces and nephews. Charlotte’s children Rosemary (the late Larry), Joan (Greg), Brian (Jane), Paul and Mary (John) as well as 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grand-children.

Ernie could accomplish anything he set his mind to including several building projects and renovations over the years. In his younger years, he enjoyed time boating, camping, and snowmobiling. He was a Canadian Power Squadron member acquiring his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying planes to various regions. Ernie took on golf in his retirement years and enjoyed “pepsi’s” with his buddies after the games.

He spent his career as a Welder, Plumber, Steamfitter and Pipefitter, member of the UA Local 599 Barrie for over 50 years. He was hardworking with many talents which has instilled a strong work ethic in all of us.

He loved listening to country music, traveling, spending many winters in Florida and most of all sharing time with his family.

Often, at any given time when his grandchildren were in his presence, he’d reach into his pocket and hand them some cash with a big smile on his face and enjoyed the joyful little faces in return.

Ernie was a very stoic and proud man. Although the last year hasn’t been easy for him, he fought a courageous battle with cancer always with a positive attitude and never letting it get the best of him. As he would say, ‘one day at a time’.

We will remember Ernie for his kindness, his generosity, his sense of humour and his quick-witted one-liners. His loving smile will be so dearly missed by his family and friends.

Our family would like to sincerely thank the amazing nursing staff and volunteers at Hospice Huronia Tomkins House for the exceptional care given to Ernie and the entire family during a difficult time. Your compassion and kindness made a difference for all of us.

In keeping with Ernie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to LeClair Cremation Centre and messages of condolences may be left on their website.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann’s Parish in Penetanguishene on Friday, April 19th, 2024 at 10am.

If you wish, donations in Ernie’s name may be made to Hospice Huronia, Tomkins House in Penetanguishene.
