We are devastated to share that Aelwen Carling passed away suddenly on June 4, 2021.
Despite her 90+ years, we somehow expected that she would continue on in her indomitable way. She will continue on in our hearts and memories, loved forever by her husband, Peter, children, Elizabeth, Glynis, Brenda and David and by their spouses (Dave, Bill & Emily) and their children & partners (Jenn & Brandon, Lisa & Justin, Will, Alun, Ceri, Bryn, Sara). Aelwen was thrilled with her 2 great-grandchildren. Aelwen was born in Cardiff, Wales and spent pivotal years of her youth in North Wales.
She remained proudly Welsh despite becoming a Canadian citizen and raising her family in Don Mills, Ontario and at the family cottage on Wymbolwood Beach. She was a tour de force in the kitchen and garden, and an example to us all as she completed a university degree with four children at home, worked inside and outside the home, volunteered, travelled widely, researched her family roots, and kept up a lively interest in everything and everybody around her. Aelwen will also be missed by her brother, Gwyn, and extended family in the UK and by her friends and neighbours. A memorial gathering will be held at a future date. No flowers, please. A donation to the charity of your choice in Aelwen’s honour would be lovely.
