It is with profound sadness that the family of  Robert Fritz Artelt announces his passing.  Robert died on Monday, August 16, 2021 in his 100th year at home in Victoria Harbour surrounded by the love and care of his family.  Loving and cherished husband of the late Anela Artelt (nee Blumkaitis).  Much loved father of Angelika Artelt-Evans (Neil), Karin Winkler (daughter of Anela).  Beloved Opa of Sarah (Jake), Stuart (Michelle) Christine, Claudia (Scott), Petra (John).  Adored Uropa of Jesse, Daniel (Katie), Audrey, Juliet, Elenor.

Robert leaves behind cherished extended family and friends in Germany and Canada.  Robert was born in Hamborn, Germany on September 7, 1921.  In 1953, he came as a new immigrant to Canada.  First settling in Val D’or, Quebec.  His family followed 6 months later, after he had established a home for them.  In 1955, he moved his family to Toronto, where he and Anela proudly bought their first house.  In 1973, Robert and Anela moved back to Germany in anticipation of their retirement years.  In 2003, Robert brought Anela back to Canada for palliative care, to fulfill her wish to be buried in Victoria Harbour near her family.  Robert returned to live in Germany until 2015, at which point he came back to Canada to live with his daughter and her family in Victoria Harbour.

Robert will be buried beside his beloved wife Anela in the Union Cemetery in Victoria Harbour.  Robert was a hard worker, often working two jobs to provide for his family.  Robert was a man with strength of character and integrity.  Having experienced difficult times in his own life, he was always ready to help those less fortunate than him. He had a kind and humble heart.  He had a terrific memory for jokes and always told them with a twinkle in his eye. He provided unwavering support, dedication and devotion to his family.  Robert’s family would to thank Dr.Land and the team of palliative care nurses from Bayshore who supported the family to provide care for Robert at home.  His family are deeply grateful to their family and friends who provided support and nourishment to them as they cared for Robert.
