A virtual event raised some very real dollars for Georgian Bay General Hospital.
The Power of Giving virtual gala Saturday raised more than $560,000 to support the GBGH Foundation’s Impact Fund.
“You showed the care teams at GBGH that you are here for them, just like they are here for the entire community,” said event co-chair Sara Lanshear.
“You showed up with fierce generosity that will ensure we can equip our hospital with the tools and technology required to continue to support GBGH vision of exceptional healthcare for every single person, every single time.”
Andrea Lesperance, who also served as event co-chair, said the hospital has always been there for her family as well as countless other families living in the area.
“When I see the community come together and achieve such amazing fundraising results I am filled with confidence,” Lesperance said. “Confidence that the amazing compassionate professionals will have what they need when we show up seeking emergency care.”
Lesperance said she’s also confident the hospital will be able to continue offering more services to the community so people won’t have to travel for certain procedures.
“You are making that confidence and care possible and we are so incredibly grateful for your support,” she said.
The event also benefited from eight area residents who offered to “triple your impact” by matching gifts. Those donors include:, Kathy and Ralph Befort, Alan and Alison Fryer, Conrad and Donna Huber, the Morneau and Wolfe families as well as Weber Manufacturing CEO Chris Edwards, Peter and Lynda Wolfhard and an anonymous donor.
"We have always believed that when you are a part of a community that offers so much opportunity, giving back, however you are able to, is important,” the Wolfhards said in an emailed note to donors.
“We also believe that the hospital is the heart of any community. This is why we choose to support Georgian Bay General Hospital.
“GBGH serves the entire community without the support of government funding for capital equipment, so donating to our local hospital is integral in supporting patient care."
