Ontario reports 510 new COVID cases Friday

Today's update noted 264 recoveries and four deaths, two of which occurred more than two months ago but were not previously reported

Public Health Ontario reported 510 new COVID cases in today's update (Aug. 13). 

This is the second consecutive report of more than 500 cases in a day, numbers not seen since mid-June in Ontario.

Today's update noted 264 recoveries and four deaths, two of which occurred more than two months ago but were not previously reported. 

The deaths include two people between 60 and 79 years old, and two people over 79 years old. 

There have been 18 new hospitalizations and nine admissions to intensive care units since yesterday's report.

The August 13 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 3,110 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 2,868 yesterday.
  • 123 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
  • There are 82 COVID-positive people in intensive care units, another 29 patients in the ICU because of COVID no longer test positive. 
  • 49 COVID-positive are on ventilators, and another 23 patients ventilated because of COVID no longer test positive.
  • The province reported 23,586 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a two per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 9,807 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16.8 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 129 are from Toronto, 61 cases are from Peel, 21 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, three are from Grey-Bruce, and 33 are from York Region.
  • Today's cases include 58 individuals under 12 years old, 48 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 265 people between 20 and 39 years old, 101 people between 40 and 59 years old, 31 people between 60 and 79 years old, and four people over 79 years old.

Vaccination status

The vaccination breakdown for new cases is as follows: 

  • New cases include 368 unvaccinated, 57 partially vaccinated, and 85 fully vaccinated. 
  • Hospitalized (non-ICU) cases include 64 unvaccinated, six partially vaccinated, and nine fully vaccinated.
  • ICU cases include 52 unvaccinated, five partially vaccinated, and three fully vaccinated.

Today's vaccination rate update includes:

  • 48,692 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 20,096,593 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 9,493,726 people have been fully vaccinated.
  • 63.6 per cent of the total population of Ontario has received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

 

Total case counts and rates

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 554,472 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 541,946 recoveries and 9,416 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,763.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 15.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 62.5 per cent from the week of July 28.

Simcoe-Muskoka

Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 15 new COVID cases.

There are currently 84 active cases in the region. 

There are two people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,468 cases of COVID-19 with 12,129 of those cases recovered and 255 cases ending in death.

Last week, the case incidence rate in Simcoe-Muskoka was 9.8 cases per 100,000 people over seven days, which is up by 180 per cent compared to the week of July 28 to Aug. 3.
