The following letter is in response to an earlier letter, Canadian flag should not be replaced by 'banner' which was originally in response to the story Parents protest taking down Canada flag for temporary displays, published on May 26.

Dear Editor,

Mr. Daniel Oliver’s letter to the editor is absolutely correct regarding our national flag and the position of the Canadian Heraldic Authority.

I was astounded and dismayed to hear that all the school trustees and boards in Ontario should demonstrate their ignorance of history and protocol by the ill advised suggestion of removing Canada’s national flag and replacing it with banners of various types.

As enthusiasts of any particular group or political organization, will we now be permitted to insist on our particular flag to be flown on the same basis as our national flag?

I am an enthusiast of the Rhinoceros and hope to see the Rhino Party flag flying during the time the school trustees have indicated in their precedent setting decision ... when can I apply?

I hope that school boards in the province will re-examine this egregious error and return to the correct protocol regarding this symbol of  our national unity.
