MidlandToday welcomes letters to the editor. They can be sent to [email protected] or submitted via the website. This letter is in response to story titled Midland councillor pitches bus service to Tiny beaches, published May 9.

A brief public note of appreciation for Councillor East's willingness to learn and change, and for having his heart in the right place.

I was extremely critical of Councillor East's response to the Guesthouse presentation to Midland council in January, but his recent comments supporting the Town-led symposium and looking for ways to be part of the solution, along with his willingness to admit he needed to change, have me impressed and grateful. It is a rare politician who can publicly admit they need to alter course.

I also appreciate where Mr. East's heart is with his proposal for a bus to Tiny beaches. I rather suspect it is not financially possible at this time, but it does give me hope that he will advocate and support better transit throughout the region and recognizes it value.

And maybe one day there can be practical and useful public transit throughout the county, that greatly reduces the reliance on the environmentally problematic fleet of private vehicles that we have today (even if switched to all electric, the hordes of vehicles are a huge resource drain).

In any event, kudos to Councillor Sheldon East.
