This letter concerns a recent column by Community Editor Andrew Philips regarding the future of Midland Bay Landing and subsequent letter by Jim Wilgar.

Dear Editor,

Although I no longer live in Midland, I agree with Mr Wilgar.

The citizens of Midland need to rally for a park instead of a commercial eyesore at Midland Bay Landing.

One needs only to walk every day as I did when I lived in Midland to realize that the town has a hidden jewel that someone is going to turn into a concrete jungle. Foresight is lacking in those sitting in council pushing this agenda.

You need only drive to Collingwood too see what foresight and caring for ones community can create. The walkable waterfront park in Collingwood is a gem.

Other towns and cities have had the foresight to understand the waterfront turned into parks for the pleasure of those who live, work and pay taxes is a far more important than commercializing it.
