MidlandToday welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected] or via the website. Please include your full name, daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following letter is in response to letters sent in relating to an article titled 'Lakehead students, faculty call for freedom of expression on Palestine', published May 9.1.

I commend professor Thamara Laredo on a factual letter on the actions of Israel and the Jewish population of the world, which is quite minimal.

I do not believe there is a Jewish person alive that does not wish for a peaceful, mutually beneficial existence with a properly run Palestinian government.

I do not know of one war that Israel has initiated, and responded to in order to save their country, and I am not going to comment on the demands made by these demonstrators.

Instead I am going to ask everyone to please use your electronic devices and fact check all these accusations made against Israel and the Jewish people, and one cannot be separated from the other, due to our beliefs.

If you were to do this, you may very well be surprised at the amount of aid that Israel has provided to the Palestinians over the years, not to mention the advances in medicine, technology, industry and farming offered globally.

I have listened to your demands and would agree to some points made. I now challenge you to simply fact check what you are hearing before making demands.
