The North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre (NSSRC), owned and operated by the Town of Midland, offers many services and spaces designed to cater to the diverse needs of its community.

While the name may suggest a simple sports arena, the centre offers a variety of spaces suited for 15 to a whopping 1,400 attendees. This diverse venue has witnessed many events, from weddings, receptions, fundraisers, craft shows and sporting events to seminars and community gatherings.

There are many seasonal benefits, said David Bressette, the centre's Operations Manager.

"Wintertime, we have public skating, preschool skating during the week, senior skating, all-ages shinny, shuffleboard and more," Bressette said, highlighting offerings like the craft show, holiday shop and artists' market.

Skating, shinny and beyond: athletic offerings for 2023–2024

The 2023-2024 skating and shinny schedule is now available, with updates and cancellations for public skating sessions available on the NSSRC skating page.

Those interested in renting the twin ice pads can contact the NSSRC directly. The venue proudly hosts many ice-related events and programs, including shinny hockey, public skating, and the prestigious Annual Silver Stick Tournament.

While the rinks are certainly a significant part of the centre, they are just the tip of the iceberg. The centre hosts the Midland Basketball Association and Special Olympics activities.

The double gymnasium remains bustling year-round, accommodating a variety of sports like Basketball, Volleyball, Indoor Tennis, Floor Hockey and Pickleball.

Room for every occasion

When not taking advantage of the twin ice rinks, visitors can rent rooms tailored to their needs. Available spaces include the community hall, boardroom, Margaret Scott Room, multi-purpose room, Bill Thompson Room and even a seniors room.

Sports enthusiasts will be delighted to find the Midland Sports Hall of Fame located within the NSSRC in the Bill Thompson Room. Admission is free, offering a glimpse into the rich sports heritage of Midland.

"We have multiple spaces available for rent, whether it's weddings, celebrations of life, meetings, or birthday parties," Bressette notes.

“The community hall, a focal point for large gatherings, can accommodate up to 475 individuals and can be divided into two separate spaces for smaller events,” Bressette said.

The NSSRC even houses a sports store, Competitive Edge Sports, which offers a range of equipment and apparel.

Further information on booking these facilities can be accessed on the centre's Booking Facilities page.
