The Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation has announced a significant milestone in its mission to bring vital medical equipment closer to home.

The hospital has recently secured approval for government funding to operate an MRI machine and is now rallying the community's support to raise the $4 million needed to purchase and install the technology by early 2025.

Victoria Evans, community giving officer at the GBGH Foundation, said although the government provides operational funding, there's no financial support for the purchase or installation of the equipment.

"We rely solely on community support to purchase and install the new MRI machine," Evans explained. "The funds raised will also help to build an expansion onto the building to accommodate the technology."

"We're thrilled with the government's commitment to supporting the operation of the MRI, but now it's time for our community to come together to help us reach our fundraising target."

This year's Power of Giving Hybrid Gala is not your regular, formal gala. The event is set to be a lively mix and mingle occasion featuring food and beverage stations, live entertainment, co-hosting by one of Canada’s most recognized celebrities, Jeanne Beker, and former GBGH board of director Sara Lankshear, live painting by local artist Holly Archer and more.

The stunning waterfront location adds to the festive atmosphere.

"We want our guests to feel their best, whether they want to dress up or go casual," said Evans. "And those who can't attend in person can register for free to view virtually, participate through our online auction or purchase a Gbay Bag, specially curated with items from local businesses.

Tickets for the event are limited, with 250 in-person tickets available and unlimited virtual guest opportunities. The event aims to raise more than $300,000, a crucial part of the $4 million goal for MRI, of which $1.3 million has already been raised thanks to the community.

Last year alone, 4,000 patients from the community had to travel more than 40km and often wait months for an MRI. The new MRI machine will decrease wait times for the entire region.

"This event is about more than just fundraising; it's about the hospital's vital role in our community," Evans emphasized. "The purchase of an MRI machine means GBGH can be there for every patient who needs it. Whether you live here year-round or just spend the summer months here, GBGH is your hospital when you are here."

The Power of Giving Hybrid Gala is not just a celebration but a call to action for everyone who relies on Georgian Bay General Hospital for their healthcare needs. Whether through attending the Gala, making a donation, sponsoring the event, or supporting through auction and Gbay Bags, every bit of support ensures that Georgian Bay General Hospital is equipped with the latest technology for friends and family in need.
