Youth arrested in restaurant robbery

A 17-year-old male was charged with Robbery with Violence, Trespass to Property and banned from the restaurant

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched at 6:26 P.M. on March 12, 2020, to a robbery complaint at a Bay Street Midland restaurant.

Attending officers spoke with restaurant staff and learned that a male suspect had demanded all the cash from the restaurant cash registers. After a brief investigation, officers located the suspect in the restaurant and arrested a 17-year-old male. The accused male was transported to Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment for further investigation.

Upon completion of the investigation, the male whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act was charged with Robbery with Violence under the Criminal Code of Canada and was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on May 6, 2020. He was also served a notice under the Trespass to Property Act to no longer attend the restaurant.
