Two recent crashes lead to impaired driving charges

Despite the efforts of officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment committing time to conducting over 100 Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) programs throughout the detachment area since November 9, 2023, two drivers from North Simcoe have been charged after investigation with impaired driving related offences in relation to the crashes they were involved in recently.

Officers responded at approximately 1:48 a.m. December 10, 2023 to a report of a pick up truck that had struck a utility pole on Tiny Beaches Road South near Spruce Street in Tiny Township. Attending investigators located and arrested the lone driver of the pick up and conducted an impaired driving investigation.

As a result, John Andrew Schoeber 27 years of Springwater Township has been charged criminally with the following driving related offences.

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

And Further with

  • Fail to report accident Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

On December 6, 2023 at 6:52 p.m. OPP officers were dispatched to a two vehicle crash resulting in personal injury to a driver at the intersection of Fuller Avenue and Tay Point Road in the Town of Penetanguishene. Attending officers, County of Simcoe Paramedics and Penetanguishene Fire Service arrived on scene to find a Lincoln Navigator that had struck another vehicle and further struck a utility pole causing service wires to fall down upon it with the driver suffering from injuries sustained in the crash. Investigators, upon removing the driver and having paramedics triage the injuries entered into a drinking and driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation the driver of the Lincoln Navigator, Leszek Wojtal 60 years of Midland has been charged criminally with the following driving related offences.

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Both accused persons were released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on December 21, 2023. They also face a 90 day driver's licence suspensions as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines and both vehicles were towed and impounded for 7 days.
