Two local residents face charges following two separate car crashes.
On Saturday morning at 11 a.m., Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers were called to the Huronia Mall parking lot to investigate a two-vehicle accident.
While there were no injuries, officers found one of the drivers passed out in his vehicle.
After waking up the driver, police conducted an impaired driving investigation.
Charged with impaired operation by drugs, Raymond Keith Land, 48, of Midland, also faces charges of possession of heroin (three counts), methamphetamine, opiod (other than heroin and two count of possession of a schedule 1 substance (heroin) for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking an opioid.
Land was released from custody with a March 28 court date.
The previous afternoon, officers responded to a report of a white Jeep in the ditch at the intersection of Highway 12 and Gervais Road in Tay Township.
After speaking with the uninjured driver, an officer started an impaired driving investigation.
Frederick George Lewis, 40, faces charges of impaired driving and over 80 in relation to this incident. Lewis of Tay Township appears in court Feb. 22.
From February 9 to 12, detachment officers conducted RIDE programs in 10 separate locations, checking 152 motorists for signs of impairment.
Police added in a release: “Educating the public about safe driving, boating and ORV practices with our community safety partners is a priority, if you see a possible impaired operator on our roadways, waterways or trails please "Make the Call" and dial 911 as impaired driving never ends well, please make a plan to get home safely.”
