Two people are facing charges after police seized a number of edged weapons in Midland over the weekend.
Ontario Provincial Police say just after 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, officers pulled over a vehicle on Simcoe County Road 93 near Lanigan Drive to investigate a possible Highway Traffic Act.
“During the course of the investigation a number of edged weapons were seized, some being classified as prohibited weapons,” OPP said in a news release.
Police say 44-year-old Taras Popovitch of Penetanguishene was driving the vehicle and has been charged with:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon at an unauthorized place
And also the following under the Highway Traffic Act:
- Driving while under suspension
- Driving with no licence
- Failure to surrender insurance slip
- Obstructing a licence plate
A passenger of the vehicle, Patricia Jadwiga Dawid 38, of Penetanguishene has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Both are scheduled to appear in court on June 6.
