A routine traffic stop near Barrie’s downtown yielded drugs, a weapon, and charges for the vehicle’s driver Sunday night.

At 8:51 p.m. on Sunday, March 31 police pulled over a car during a traffic stop on North Street near the corner of Owen Street and Grove Street East.

Barrie police communications coordinator Peter Leon said the driver was found to be in possession of a white powdery substance police believed to be cocaine.

The man was charged with possession of cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

He was later released from custody with a future court date.
