Tip leads to impaired driving charges for Toronto resident

Tipster tells police a suspected impaired driver was trying to leave the parking lot of a Hugel Avenue, Midland business

MIDLAND, ON - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were provided at 11:13 a.m. June 15, 2020, a tip from the public of a possible impaired driver attempting to leave the parking lot of a Hugel Avenue, Midland business.

Attending officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle before it left the parking lot onto the roadway. Upon speaking with the lone driver the officers entered into a drinking and driving investigation resulting in Niki Lacey Melka Warlow, 34 years, of Toronto being charged with the following driving offences.

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days as per the conditions of the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS). Accused was released from police custody on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Sept. 17, 2020.

OPP officers remind drivers that they will be taking all precautions available during this time to protect themselves and others while conducting investigations either at the roadside or at detachment. Calls from the public are always appreciated as road safety is paramount for all road users.
