Barrie police assisted Ontario Provincial Police on Monday to apprehend three suspects in a stolen car on Highway 400 south of the city.
Police say canine and aviation units took part in the bust, which began just after 2 p.m. on Feb. 5 in Barrie near Mapleview Drive and finished on Highway 400 near the King City exit, according to OPP social media posts.
“Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a video posted to X. “That vehicle failed to stop and was later reported by witnesses in a nearby parking lot with people running from the vehicle down into a nearby ravine.”
With the assistance of Barrie city police and their canine unit, a track was established.
“Witnesses also reported seeing the three suspects getting into another vehicle, which ended up being a ride-share vehicle,” added Schmidt. “That vehicle was tracked (on) Highway 400 southbound."
Police say officers conducted a rolling block traffic stop near King Road in the southbound lanes of the highway.
A 19-year-old Brampton man, a 17-year-old from Toronto and a 15-year-old were arrested, according to police. One of the accused was held for a bail hearing.
Numerous charges have been laid, including dangerous driving, flight from police, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in tools and breach of bail conditions.
A replica firearm was also located, as well as disguises, police say.
