'Suspicious object' turns out to be carpet, not a body: OPP

Emergency crews called to creek area this afternoon

Emergency crews responded to a report of a possible body found near Thornton on Wednesday, May 22. It was later revealed by police to be just a rolled-up carpet. No body was located.

Provincial police and emergency crews descended on an area near Thornton, south of Barrie, this afternoon to investigate the possibility of a body being found.

Nottawasaga OPP responded around 12:30 p.m. on May 22 to a report of a "suspicious object" in a creek near the 10th Line of Essa Township and County Road 21, just west of Thornton.

"It was revealed to be a rolled-up carpet. No body was located," OPP communications coordinator Brooklyn Harker said.

All OPP resources at the site are now cleared, Harker added.
