Summer may officially be over, but Ontario Provincial Police continue to patrol Georgian Bay and the Trent-Severn Waterway, looking for impaired operators and incorrect use of safety equipment.

Officers checked 18 vessels this past weekend.

Three operators were screened for alcohol. Two passed, but the third was handed a three-day driver's licence suspension.

Two boaters were charged for not having enough life jackets on board for everyone, while another six were educated for various infractions under the Canada Shipping Act.

One was charged for not having navigation lights activated while it was dark.

Police also continued their "I Got Caught Wearing My Life Jacket Program,” handing out T-shirts to kids wearing their personal flotation devices.

Officers responded to eight calls for service while patrolling the waterways of North Simcoe.

Anyone who suspects an impaired boater is asked to call 911.
