The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has cleared police of any fault in the injuries of a man who suffered fractured hips after falling to the ground from a second-floor window.

According to the director's report from the SIU, police were called to a Wasaga Beach residence on Aug. 4 for a report of a potential domestic disturbance. Upon hearing someone at the door, a 66-year-old man was "fearful that the people at the door were his girlfriend and her new boyfriend," states the report.

The man then reportedly left the house through a second-storey window and fractured his hips when he fell to the ground below.

Director Joseph Martino of the Special Investigations Unit "found it plain and obvious" police did not contribute to or cause the man's injuries.

The investigation has been discontinued.

The Special Investigations Unit is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police when their conduct may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or discharge of a firearm at a person. SIU investigators are civilians.
