Shady thief caught lifting $40K worth of sunglassess from mall

City cops have pulled the shades down on a case of an overly conscientious sunglasses thief.

A 34-year-old man, of no fixed address, is facing a slew of criminal charges stemming from an investigation conducted by detectives from the Barrie Police property crime/auto theft unit, according to a news release.

Beginning on April 1 and ending on April 27, the man attended the same business located in the Georgian Mall on 12 occasions and stole sunglasses that were valued in excess of $40,000.

Police said they were able to identify the man and arrested him on May 1 in downtown Barrie.

The accused has been charged with failing to comply with probation, 12 counts of theft under $5,000, 12 counts of possession of property obtained by crime and trafficking in property obtained by crime.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
