Police release new details on 'unsanctioned truck meet-up'

Police also investigating fail-to-remain collision that happened in the area at the time

Police estimate upwards of 600 trucks and 700 people attended an unsanctioned truck rally Saturday, May 6 in the Bayfield Mall parking lot.

Barrie police have released more details about this past weekend's "large, unsanctioned truck meet-up" in the Bayfield Mall parking lot.

The meet-up happened on Saturday and officers from the Barrie police traffic unit were aided by the South Simcoe Police Service, and the Ontario Provincial Police.

Police say the number of vehicles present were between 500 and 600 with more than 700 people attending with stunt driving taking place in the parking lot as well as on streets in the area.

Police laid numerous charges as a result, including:

  • 29 Highway Traffic Act charges,
  • one charge of stunt driving on Bayfield Street with the involved vehicle being impounded for 14 days and the driver’s licence suspended for 30 days
  • one three-day licence suspension
  • three Alcohol Screening Device tests conducted

Police also say there was also thousands of dollars in damages done to the parking lot.

Police are also investigating a fail-to-remain motor vehicle collision took place in the area of Bayfield Street and Coulter Street.
