UPDATE: Police identify local man involved in overnight crash

76-year-old Tiny Township died after failing to negotiate turn where Fuller Avenue meets Harbourview Drive

A Tiny Township man is dead following an overnight single-vehicle collision near the corner of Fuller Avenue and Harbourview Drive.

Neil Barry McQuade, 76, died from injuries sustained after his vehicle crashed down an embankment towards Bayport Boulevard early Monday morning.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP Const. Dave Hobson said McQuade's beige minivan was spotted by a construction worker at about seven this morning who then called 911.

Upon arrival, Midland firefighters extricated McQuade from the vehicle with paramedics also attending. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Hobson, it appears that McQuade was driving down Fuller Avenue and failed to make the curve near the old Masonic Temple that would have been brought him onto Harbourview Drive.

"He went through the intersection," Hobson told MidlandToday. "No sumac branch was broken, he missed the chevron there by the corner and didn't hit any trees."

Hobson said that after driving down the embankment, which is in an area where new homes are being constructed, the man's vehicle jumped over a patch of dirt and "nose planted" into the ground.

"We'll be exploring some of the human factors for the cause of the crash," Hobson said, noting police don't believe he was impaired in any way.

Local police are being assisted by members of the force's technical traffic collision investigation (TTCI) team to determine exactly what occurred.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam video is asked to contact the OPP at (888) 310-1122 or opp.southern.georgian.bay@opp.ca.
