Pickup stolen in Barrie with late family member's ashes inside

Dodge Ram stolen overnight from Puget Street driveway in city's east end

A pickup truck stolen last night from a driveway in Barrie's east end contained a family member's ashes, according to Barrie police.

On Wednesday morning, the owner of the white 2022 Dodge Ram Sport pickup truck went to Barrie police headquarters to report that sometime overnight his truck had been stolen from his Puget Street laneway.

The victim of this theft reported that he last saw the truck in his driveway at around 11:30 p.m., Feb. 7, and that when he left his home this morning at 6:30 a.m., it was gone.

Police say the truck has a small dent in the rear passenger-side bumper and has an Ontario licence plate of BR55655.

Along with some personal documents, the victim advised police that in the floor storage area behind the driver’s seat, there was a small cardboard box that was lined with a plastic bag. Contained in that plastic bag were the ashes of a family member who had recently died.

Barrie police is requesting the assistance of the public in locating this truck and if anyone should happen to locate a small cardboard box that has been abandoned or appears to have been discarded, you are asked to call police immediately at 705-725-7025 or 911, if the truck is being operated on the road or highway.
