A Christian Island man has been charged after police say he attempted to break into vehicles early Saturday morning in Penetanguishene.

Shortly after midnight, Southern Georgian Bay OPP responded to a report of someone trying to enter a vehicle on Fox Street. Police patrolled the area and were later flagged down by a Peel Street resident who apprehended the suspect, who had reportedly tried to enter vehicles on the property.

Tyler Sylvester, 30, has been charged with theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle and two counts each of trespassing at night and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He was further arrested on an outstanding warrant for an Anishinabek Police Service investigation.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody pending a future court date.
