Penetanguishene man faces charges from vehicle break-ins

PENETANGUISHENE - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police  (OPP) responded to a Church Street, Penetanguishene resident's complaint of several unlocked vehicles being entered and property removed in the early hours of June 10, 2021.

Through investigation the suspect was identified and in the a.m. of June 11, 2021 Matthew Cascanette, 21 years old of Penetanguishene, was arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused is being held for a bail hearing via video link and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date.

Officers have been responding to unlocked vehicle entries and thefts in the Beaulieu Drive, Yeo Street and Richelieu Drive areas of Penetanguishene and residents are always reminded to remember to secure your vehicle when you park it - "Lock It or Lose It"
