Orillia OPP have charged an Orillia man in the wake of a two-car collision that seriously injured a pedestrian.

After an investigation into the crash that occurred Thursday afternoon near Orillia Secondary School, William Hutton, 66, of Orillia is facing two Criminal Code charges, police said in a media release issued at 8:30 p.m.

Hutton is charged with operation causing bodily harm and operation while impaired (blood alcohol concentration 80 plus) in the incident that left an eight-year-old with serious injuries.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Jan. 10, 2023.

The intersection of Park Street and Collegiate Drive was closed for several hours for the investigation and has since reopened.

ORIGINAL STORY:

An eight-year-old pedestrian has been seriously injured as a result of a two-vehicle collision Thursday in Orillia.

Emergency crews responded at about 3:15 p.m. to the report of a collision at the intersection of Park Street and Collegiate Drive.

The child was crossing the street and was injured as a result of the crash.

The child was taken to a local hospital and, according to Orillia OPP, is being airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital.

There were no other injuries reported.

The intersection of Park Street and Collegiate Drive is expected to remain closed for several hours while an investigation takes place.
