It appears Thursday afternoons are the most likely time to be in a car crash, at least in the first three months of 2024.

That’s according to the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment which has released information about incidents they responded to in January, February and March.

Here’s the result of calls to the OPP Communications Centre and through the OPP Online Reporting:

  • Officers investigated 209 reported collisions with the highest frequency being on Thursday afternoons.
  • Officers attended 27 complaint areas and issued 1300 tickets to drivers for their noted driving infractions.
  • Officers conducted  R.I.D.E. check stops at 287 various locations, checking 3751 vehicles for signs of impairment.
  • Twenty one persons were charged with Impaired Driving offences after investigation.
  • Eleven Drivers were charged for a Stunt Driving offence - exceeding the posted speeds limits of area roadways by 50 km/h over the posted speed limit contrary to the Moving Ontario More Safety Act, also known as the MOMS Act to increase road safety.

OPP remind drivers, when it comes to street racing, there’s a lower threshold for roads with a posted speed limit of less than 80 km/h.

“Drivers caught travelling 40 km/h over the speed limit face racing/stunt driving charges,” police said in a news release.
