OPP find vehicle of interest in Penetanguishene homicide investigation

Southern Georgian Bay OPP continue the investigation into an incident at the Village Square Mall in Penetanguishene July 27 at 4 p.m.

Ontario Provincial Police have located a vehicle of interest in their investigation of a homicide in Penetanguishene.

Police were called to the rear parking lot of the Village Square Mall at around 5 p.m. Thursday after gunshots rang out.

Arriving officers found an injured man.

Jesse Daniel Deschamps of Penetanguishene was rushed to a local hospital where the 30-year-old was pronounced deceased.

OPP say Forensic Identification Services are now helping examine the vehicle of interest.

In addition, a postmortem examination has officially confirmed a gunshot wound as the cause of death.

“Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to public safety,” OPP added in a news release.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious persons or activity in the area around the time of the shooting, or anyone with dashcam or surveillance video, to contact the at 1-888-310-1122 or [email protected]

“If you see a person or vehicle that may be linked to this incident, call 9-1-1 and do not approach,” OPP stated.

A GoFundMe has been set up to raise money for Deschamps’ family. It describes him as a man engaged to be married who was providing for four children.
