No impaired charges laid during recent snowmobile RIDE check

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment and of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trails in the North Simcoe area over the Feb. 2-4, 2023 weekend checking snowmobile operators for incidents of impairment, equipment and trespassing.

The patrols and RIDE checks by these officers resulted in the following trailside investigations:
    •    one improper muffler
    •    three speed violations
    •    three machine validation sticker (Attention all snowmobile owners: you must renew your paid registration for your sled)
    •    two fail to display registration numbers
    •    three trail pass violations

Officers also issued 19 Provincial Offences warnings (mostly for machine validation stickers) which are documented for future reference by the snowmobile patrol officers.

Officers conducted RIDE on the trails during their patrol time looking for impaired operators and a testament to their commitment to trail safety given the temperatures of last week!

Involved patrol officers were happy to report that no snowmobile related crashes on trails in North Simcoe were reported.  

OPP patrol officers remind snowmobilers that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails and ice surfaces through community partnerships through which we promote safe driving practices. All ice surfaces should be treated with respect and remember "No Ice Is Safe Ice" and please head out with a fully charged cell phone preferably with a location type app loaded such as What3Words, google maps or the OFSC app to assist emergency services to locate you should you need help.
