Midland resident faces drug trafficking charges after traffic stop

TAY TOWNSHIP - On June 11, 2020 at 5:31 p.m., members of the OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) attached to the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop during a street drug investigation near the intersection of Highway 12 and Rosemount Road in Tay Township.

The driver and passenger were arrested at the scene and a roadside search resulted in the seizure of a quantity of street drugs and the investigation was continued back at the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment.

As a result of this investigation, a quantity of cocaine was seized with an approximate street value of $7,100 along with a quantity of methamphetamine, Canadian currency and associated drug paraphernalia.

Charged is the driver of the vehicle Joey Therrien, 27 years, of Midland and passenger Laura Brasseur, 28 years, of Tay Township with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Poss of a Schedule I Substance - methamphetamine

Both accused persons were released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Sept. 17, 2020.
