A man who shot himself during a standoff with police in Penetanguishene last month has died.
Halton Regional Police attended a property in the area of Laurier Road on the morning of Aug. 31 to execute search warrants. A 35-year-old man had barricaded himself inside an RV on the property. Ontario Provincial Police tactical officers and a negotiator also attended.
At about 9:30 p.m., OPP officers deployed pepper spray into the RV.
“The man exited the RV and was observed to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to a news release from the province’s Special Investigations Unit.
The man was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries Monday. A post-mortem is scheduled to take place Wednesday morning in Toronto.
The Special Investigations Unit asks anyone with information to call the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or provide details at siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
