Man faces bevy of charges after driving stolen vehicle into ditch

A member of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was monitoring west bound traffic on Heritage Drive, Midland at 5:07 p.m. March 4, 2022 when the officer noted a west bound vehicle exceeding the 60 KPH limit and proceeded to try and stop it.

The vehicle failed to stop by continuing westbound on Heritage Drive and crossed the centre line entering the eastbound ditch, east of Beamish Drive. The lone occupant of the vehicle fled the scene and was located nearby shortly afterwards and arrested. During the investigation officers located a quantity of methamphetamine and edged weapons.

Charged is Stuart Harlow, 33 years old of no fixed address, with the following offences.

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Possession of Property obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Drugs
  • Possession of Break in Instruments
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order - Other Than Attending Court ( four counts)
  • Operation While Prohibited (two counts)
  • Use of Credit Card
  • Theft of Credit Card
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle (two counts)

Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

And Further

  • Speeding
  • Class G1 licence holder- unaccompanied by qualified driver

Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days and the accused's drivers licence has been suspended for 90 days as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines. The accused is being held to appear before Bail Court and will appear at a future date before the Ontario Court of Justice .
